Man admits to battery at Rolling Meadows ice arena

An Elmwood Park man was sentenced to two years of probation Thursday in exchange for pleading guilty to striking another man with a knife after an argument at a Rolling Meadows ice arena.

Jesse Mendoza, 35, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a weapon, a class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Fecarotta also ordered Mendoza to pay $6,500 in restitution to the victim, who was present in court and who agreed with the sentence, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Gerber.

Mendoza struck the victim last October because Mendoza was angry the victim was dating a women they both knew, authorities said. The victim was hospitalized but recovered from his injuries, authorities said.
