Gurnee police make DUI, drug arrests
Gurnee police announced Thursday that five alcohol- and drug-related arrests were made during a special enforcement campaign from March 11 through 20. It was called the Drunk and Drugged Driving and Safety Restraint Special Enforcement Period.
Selective enforcement activities throughout the village were conducted focusing on impaired drivers. The campaign coincided with the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, the launch of the spring break season and as a prelude to Alcohol Awareness Month, which is in April. Officers also focused on safety restraint enforcement. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the enforcement actions were performed in an effort to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways and increase safety restraint compliance.
Gurnee police reported officers worked 91 extra hours for the detail and stopped 67 vehicles. They reported 28 speeding tickets and 16 citations for safety restraint violations were written.
