Llanes leads Burlington to BNC title
Burlington Central senior Tre Llanes established his dominance in three events late Wednesday night and led the Rockets to the championship of the Big Northern Conference indoor boys track meet held at Byron.
Llanes, a returning state qualifier, won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.91, the long jump (21-2) and the triple jump (44-2) as the Rockets scored 139 points to far outdistance second-place Winnebago, which had 82. Byron was third with 51. Llanes was also third in the high jump (5-11).
The Rockets also got first-place finishes from Mike Gulik in the 400 dash (53.16), and Kyle Ingraham in the pole vault (11-6). Central’s Tyler Panireillo was second in the 200 (24.28), Clint Kliem was second in the 800 (2:01.69), and Joe Gannon was second in the 1,600 run (4:43.56).
Hampshire’s Jared Butler scored his team’s only points, finishing second in the 3,200 meters in a time of 10:37.76.
