Pare down spending in government
In a Saturday Soapbox editorial you stated it was depressing that Illinois is no longer the nation’s “mean center of population.” It just might be that more and more people are getting sick of Chicago and Illinois politics. I know I am.
Gov. Quinn wants to consolidate the school districts. According to the Association of School Boards, that will save $1.6 million in administrative costs but cost more than $10 million in added teacher costs. Is this some more of the new political math?
Here’s an editorial headline from the Rockford Register Star on March 13: “Taxpayers tapped out; efficient government is imperative.” Efficient government! Is that possible in Illinois?
