O'Hare revenue bonds back in play

Chicago is pushing ahead with funding for expansion of one of the world's largest airports now that there's an agreement with two major airlines.

Its department of aviation says Chicago will issue $1 billion in general airport revenue bonds to pay for a new runway and other upgrades at O'Hare International Airport.

The bond sale should start the week of April 18, and close the following week.

The City Council approved the measure last year, but a United and American airlines lawsuit held it up.

The carriers accused Chicago of violating a lease agreement giving them authority to approve such expenditures. The city accused the airlines of reneging on a promise to see O'Hare expansion through.

The sides ironed many of their differences last week, allowing the financing to proceed.
