Daily Herald garners journalism award nominations
The Daily Herald received 13 nominations in the prestigious 2010 Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism contest Wednesday.
The finalists for the awards sponsored by the Chicago Headline Club include the “Public pension time bomb” series by Matt Arado, Bob McCoppin and John Patterson in the Best Investigative Reporting category.
Other nominees include:
• Kim Pohl for “Lukich departure,” in the Best Education Reporting category;
• Kerry Lester for “Unsilenced,” in the Best Feature Story category;
• Barry Rozner in the Best Sports Commentary category;
• George LeClaire for “Ricke memorial,” and “When Elvis was alive,” in the Best News Photo category;
• John Starks for “Stars and stripes forever,” and LeClaire for “Chicago dancers,” in the Best Feature Photo category;
• Steve Lundy for “Wrestling celebration,” and Rick West for “Game saving catch,” in the Best Sports Photo category;
• Tim Broderick in the Best Graphics category;
• Jamie Sotonoff for “A $13,000 problem,” and Marni Pyke for “Haste makes toxic waste,” in the Best Science, Health, Technology or Environmental Reporting category.
Additional nominations are expected to come out in the near future. Winners will be announced May 6.
