Woman accused of using cane to break victim’s arm

An Aurora woman faces a battery charge after police said she used her cane to break another woman’s arm during a quarrel involving a child custody exchange in Batavia late last year.

Teresa Rosas Perez, 51, of the 2000 block of Lilac Lane, is charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by two to five years in prison if convicted, according to police.

The charge stems from a fight in the parking lot of a Batavia restaurant Dec. 17. Perez and several relatives were there to exchange custody of a child when “a fracas ensued,” according to Batavia Detective Gary LaBarbera. Perez is accused of hitting the arm of a female friend of the child’s father with her metal cane, breaking the arm.

Batavia police obtained arrest warrants Dec. 29 and Perez turned herself in to police Sunday night.

Perez posted $500 bond late Monday and was released from the Kane County jail.

She was not the only one arrested in connection with the incident.

Her daughter, Leslie Gomez, the mother of the child, also turned herself in to Batavia police Sunday. Gomez, 34, of St. Charles, was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery for hitting the child’s father in the face, police said.

Jasmine Gomez, 20, relation unknown, was charged with misdemeanor battery, and arrested in January, police said. She is accused of throwing a full glass of a soft drink in the face and clothing of another woman. She lives in St. Charles.
