Dist. 70 cuts two teachers

Two teachers in Libertyville Elementary District 70 have been released because of declining enrollment. The school board on Monday approved resolutions not to re-employ for the 2011-12 school year a first-year, full-time teacher and a part-time teacher, who has been with the district two years. The district said the move was not made because of budgetary reasons. Figures provided by the district showed enrollment declined to 2,589 students, down 30 students from 2009-10. State law requires teachers be released 45 days before the end of the school year, but they may be rehired at a later date.
