Cook Co. sheriff: Inmate arrested in smuggling scheme

CHICAGO — An Indiana man held in Cook County Jail on a murder charge is now accused of smuggling bullets and gunpowder into the facility.

In a news release about the new felony charges against 52-year-old David Sidener of Evansville, Sheriff Tom Dart's office says investigators found 15 bullets hidden in a film projector and a plastic bag containing gun powder inside a CD player.

That discovery followed an investigation that revealed a therapist Sidener knows at the jail hospital recently received two packages from Sidener's hometown. They say Sidener allegedly arranged for another package containing pieces of a zip gun to be sent to the therapist.

Dart's office says the therapist has denied being part of a smuggling scheme, adding that the therapist hasn't been charged but has been suspended.
