Where, oh, where to send tax returns?

Like so many other people out there, I recently completed my US 1040 form and found out that I owe the IRS some money. So, the next step was to find out where to send the payment. Simple, right? Wrong!

I went to irs.gov to find out which city to send the money. The instructions from the 1040 says to send it to Fresno. The instructions from the 1040-V payment voucher says to send it to Cincinnati. So now I have a contradiction on the IRS website.

So I decide to call the IRS to rectify the situation. A nice lady came on the phone and told me to send it to Kansas City. I told the nice lady that Illinoisans haven’t sent their returns to Kansas City in years. She said it really doesn’t matter where I send it because the IRS would process it no matter where I sent it. So why then does the 1040/1040V instructions assign certain states to certain cities? Anyway, I came up with my own system: I’m going to use the Scissors/Rock/Paper method to pick the city. So, folks, I leave you with this thought: How in the world are the feds going to run something like health care? Scissors/Rock/Paper?
