Wheeling teen gets probation for running into cop
A Wheeling teen who authorities say struck an Arlington Heights police officer with his car, was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to aggravated battery to a police officer.
A Cook County judge also sentenced 17-year-old Vladislav Pobyegayev to two years probation and 110 days in jail. Pobyegayev, who has no criminal background, received credit for 48 days he has spent in custody since his arrest in January.
The judge also ordered the Pobyegayev to pay $2,000 in restitution.
At about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, the officer — who had been assisting in another arrest in the area — became suspicious of a car parked in the 2400 block of Kennicott Avenue, in which Pobyegayev and three other people were sitting.
The plainclothes officer identified himself, but authorities believe Pobyegayev panicked, backed up and struck the officer, throwing him onto the hood of the car. Police do not believe the teen was trying to kill the officer. He was arrested a short time later by Buffalo Grove police.
