Storage trailer catches fire in Elgin
A trailer in the parking lot of the Elgin Mental Health Center went up in flames Wednesday afternoon after its insulated walls caught fire, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot on the 700 block of South State Street and were able to put out the flames in about 10 minutes, said Captain Pat Hilbrich.
The trailer, which had been used as storage, was being repaired by an outside contractor doing welding work when the fire started, Hilbrich said.
The worker attempted to put out the fire, but he couldn’t reach the flames, which had spread through insulation between the trailer’s walls, Hilbrich said.
No one was injured, but the trailer was destroyed during the fire, he said.
