Killer accused of punching DuPage deputy

An Aurora gang member awaiting sentencing for a 2007 murder could face additional prison time for punching a sheriff’s deputy less than two weeks after his conviction, authorities said Wednesday.

Enrique L. Torres, 27, was indicted by the DuPage County grand jury Tuesday on two counts of aggravated battery stemming from the alleged Feb. 22 attack in the county jail. Officials said the deputy was not seriously hurt.

Torres is already facing 45 years to life in prison for the April 14, 2007, murder of Edgar Hill of Hillside, who was gunned down in the parking lot of a Super 8 motel on Aurora’s far-east side after he caught one of Torres’ associates burglarizing a car. Judge Robert Kleeman convicted Torres of that crime on Feb. 10 after a bench trial.

If convicted of the felony battery charges as well, Torres could face up to an additional 60 years in prison because of his extensive criminal history, prosecutors said. He remains in the county jail without bond. His next court date is March 28.
