Lombard Releases Residential Grant Programs Updates

The Village of Lombard Public Works Department recently released information on the current status of various available residential grant programs. These grant programs include: Compost Bin Grant, Rain Barrel Grant, Backyard Drainage Grant and Overhead Sewer Grant.

The Compost Bin Grant is a reimbursement program available to residents for the purchase of residential compost bins. The Village will reimburse a maximum of $80 for the purchase of one bin. Composting not only reduces refuse output, but is excellent for the garden.

Effective October 8, 2010, the Rain Barrel Grant program will reimburse residents a maximum of $40 per barrel for the purchase of one rain barrel. This grant program was created to encourage residents to conserve water. Rain barrels are excellent for outdoor watering use and at the same time allow residents to save on their water bill.

The Backyard Drainage Grant is designed to help residents who experience severe yard flooding. This grant is available to homeowners who have flooding that remains for 72 hours or longer which affects at least two contiguous properties. Through this program the Village will reimburse residents for 50% of the cost, up to a maximum of $5,000 to install a backyard drainage system. Funding is currently depleted for this program. However, upon Board of Trustees approval, funds will available beginning June 1, 2011.

The Overhead Sewer Grant program is available to assist homeowners who experience chronic sewer back ups. Through this program, the Village will pay up to $5,000 of the cost to install an overhead sewer. The applicant will pay for the first 25% of the cost; the Village will pay the remaining costs up to a maximum of $5,000. Any costs above the sum total will be the responsibility of the applicant. As with the Backyard Drainage Grant program, the Overheard Sewer Grant funding is currently depleted. Upon Board of Trustees approval, funds will be available beginning June 1, 2011.
