Lindenhurst man dies of car crash injuries

A 75-year-old Lindenhurst man is dead due to the injuries he suffered in a Saturday morning car crash near Gurnee, Lake County Sheriff’s Police officials said Tuesday.

Robert Jansky died from head injuries he received when the 2003 Buick LeSabre he was riding in was hit by a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, Sgt. Christopher Thompson said.

Jansky died Monday at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, two days after the accident, Thompson said.

Jansky and the driver, Gerald Thiel, 73, also of Lindenhurst, were westbound on Stearns School Road about a quarter-mile from Mill Creek Drive when the Tahoe allegedly crossed the center line and crashed into their vehicle and caused it to roll over, Thompson said.

No charges have been filed as of yet against the Tahoe’s driver, a 41-year-old Lindenhurst woman, Thompson said. Alcohol did not seem to be a factor, he said, but there were indications the woman may have been using a cell phone at the time of the accident.

The accident was still under investigation, Thompson said.

The Tahoe’s driver was taken to Condell where she was treated and released Saturday for minor injuries.
