Next stop: Life without parole

Let me tell you what is coming. Quinn’s signature on the bill abolishing the Illinois death penalty is not the end. The anti-death penalty industry of lobbyists, lawyers and assorted academic busy-bodies will not declare victory and pack up their tent. Give them a little time, and they will decide that life in prison without the possibility of release is “cruel and unusual punishment”, and they will start fighting for the eventual release of the “worst of the worst,” even the likes of Dugan.
