Incumbents key to Stevenson success

By all measures, Stevenson High School is among the top educational institutions in the country, the only public high school in Illinois to win four U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Awards, one of five schools in the U.S. to earn the Distinction in Arts Education award from the John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and consistently listed among the top public high schools nationwide by U.S. News and World Report.

Year after year, teachers, administrators and most-importantly, students receive a nearly endless list of prestigious awards from across the nation for academic, extracurricular, and athletic achievement. By all measures, the school has a long, impressive record of responsible fiscal management.

Stevenson is one of only a few schools in Illinois to ever maintain a AAA bond rating from Standard & Poor’s.

The Stevenson School Board has not gone to taxpayers for more funding via referendum since 2002 and likely will not need to do so for the remainder of this decade. The cost per-pupil is lower than all comparable high schools in the area.

Those running against the slate of incumbents believe that parent committees must be formed to develop curriculum and that they can do better at managing the school finances. The current board’s approach of hiring the best professionals to manage curriculum is clearly more than a winning strategy, it is a championship strategy.

The excellent management and planning speaks for itself, delivering great value for our money. Why risk our future with a group of unknowns having a destructive agenda? By all measures, we are well-represented by the current Stevenson board.

I urge you to vote for continued improvement and continued success.

Cast your vote for Terry Moons, Bruce Lubin, Merv Roberts, and David Weisberg.
