Arlington Hts. bicyclist impressed and grateful

I’m a bicycle commuter, and in the late evening of Thursday, March 3rd, I was hit by a car while riding in Rolling Meadows.

Almost immediately, two passing cars stopped, and both drivers immediately came across the road to make sure I was OK, and lend any assistance they could. The car that had hit me had stopped but the driver had not returned to the point of impact yet.

After they made sure I was not seriously injured, one of the drivers called 911 and within a couple of minutes the Rolling Meadows police and an ambulance had arrived. The officers assessed my condition, then handed me off to the paramedics to make sure I was OK.

These public servants took over the entire situation and handled everything with the utmost professionalism, discretion and efficiency. Afterward, the officers even offered me a ride home, which I gratefully accepted.

These professionals provide this type of service to us all, every single day. We should recognize their hard work, and let them know how much we appreciate it, especially in these days if tight municipal budgets that require even more sacrifice on their part.

The man and woman that stopped, and at least two others that stopped to offer help, did so without asking anything in return, and without concern for their own agendas or schedules. They were just there to help.

Unfortunately, I did not get any of the names of the professionals and good Samaritans that were of so much help to me that night. Hopefully, they will see this note and accept my heartfelt thanks which I was not able to convey that evening.
