Kriese, Barrett, Walkington in Hainesville

Four candidates seek three available seats on the Hainesville village board. We can’t support newcomer Timothy Powers because he already sits on one elected board as an Avon Township trustee and he’s also running for a Grayslake library board seat. He says he has the time for all three boards, but we have a long-standing policy against supporting candidates who serve on multiple elected bodies. Newcomer Walter Kriese is a little green to public office, but he’s done his homework and shows a sincere interest in serving the village. Neither of the incumbents — Kevin Barrett and Gary Walkington — participated in our editorial board interview, but both completed questionnaires, although Walkington’s terse responses won’t help many voters. Both have long experience on the board — Walkington since 1993.
