One dead in Elgin crash

A 20-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a van in a crash early Friday morning on Route 20 in Elgin, officials said. Darius Mason, of Bartlett, was in the roadway when he was struck by the van at the corner of Route 20 and McLean Boulevard at about 4:20 a.m., Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson said. The roadway was reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
Police are still investigating the crash, and the driver of the 2006 Ford van, an Algonquin resident, has not been cited, Olafson said. The driver was on his way to work, she said.
