Illinois trout fishing season to begin April 2

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois trout season will start April 2.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday that this year's spring trout fishing season will start at 5 a.m. that Saturday. The department says more than 60,000 rainbow trout will be stocked statewide in 43 locations.

Illinois fishing licenses and inland trout stamps are necessary for anglers to legally fish trout in the state. Anglers can't take trout from any stocked waterways from March 15 until the season begins. The department says citations will be issued.

The legal trout season daily possession limit is five fish.
