Ala. Woman faces charges in Ind. huffing death

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — An Alabama woman faces charges in Indiana alleging that she inhaled an intoxicating gas from an aerosol can moments before blacking out at the wheel of a car and causing a crash that killed a friend.

The South Bend Tribune reports that 19-year-old Taylor Dingus has been charged in northern Indiana's LaPorte County with a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and a misdemeanor of inhaling toxic vapors.

The Herald-Argus reports that the Hartselle, Ala., woman is in custody in Alabama awaiting extradition to Indiana.

Police say that on Jan. 4, Dingus "huffed" gas from an aerosol can and blacked out while driving before her car struck a utility pole and a tree. Her 18-year-old passenger, Brandy Simcox of New Buffalo, Mich., died a month later.
