See 'Gone with the Wind' March 23 at York Theatre

The York Theatre, 150 N. York St., will participate in Elmhurst Reads 2011 by showing an outstanding movie set during the Civil War. "Gone with the Wind" will be shown on Wednesday, March 23 at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War, Elmhurst Reads 2011 will feature programs at the Elmhurst Library along with exhibits, activities, and presentations throughout Elmhurst. It aims to inspire conversation within the community about the Civil War including the politics of the time, legendary leaders, and life during this historical war.

“Gone with the Wind” (1939), starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, is an epic tale of the old south from the start of the Civil War through reconstruction. The film follows the life of beautiful Scarlett O'Hara. From her young innocent days on a feudalistic plantation to the war-torn streets of Atlanta; from her first love, who she has always desired to three husbands; from the utmost luxury to absolute starvation and poverty; from her innocence to her understanding and comprehension of life.

Mark your calendars for the second Civil War screening when the York Theatre presents "Glory" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7.
