Tennessee man denies Round Lake Beach murder charge

A Kingston, Tenn. man police say shot another man to death nearly 29 years ago in a Round Lake Beach garage in 1982 pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court.

Robert Bostic, 70, was arrested in January for the June 25, 1982 slaying of fellow motorcycle club member Carlton Richmond, 31.

Assistant State’s Attorney Ken Larue said Bostic and Richmond were members of a club that used the garage in the 800 block of Oakwood Drive as a bar and clubhouse.

On the night of the shooting, Larue said, Bostic shot Richmond in the chest after an argument broke out between them.

Four witnesses who originally refused to cooperate with police identified Bostic as the shooter after Round Lake Beach police reopened the investigation, Larue said.

Bostic was arrested at his Tennessee home in late January, and agreed to return to Illinois to face the charges.

He is being held on $1.5 million bond, but Larue said Associate Judge George Bridges agreed to review that amount at a March 16 hearing.

Bridges also scheduled a pretrial conference for April 19 and a trial for May 16.

If convicted, Bostic could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison.
