Lake County volunteers to pack 100,000 lifesaving meals

Hundreds of Lake County volunteers will pack 100,000 lifesaving meals for developing-world children on Saturday, March 12, at East Lake Academy in Lake Forest.

A collaboration between Lindemann Chimney Co., East Lake Academy and Feed My Starving Children will help address famine needs. Organizers are seeking volunteer individuals and groups from communities, churches, Scouts and other bodies for two-hour shifts.

After 15-minutes of training, they’ll place fortified soy, rice and vegetable meals into thousands of zip-lock packages. Packages will fill cartons, cartons will be sealed and palletized, and everything readied for shipment to Asia, Africa or Latin America.

“Lindemann Chimney Co. is proud to manage this event and provide employees, leadership and $19,000 funding,” said President Rob Lindemann. “We’re grateful to live in a region of plenty and thankful to prepare 100,000 meals that restore malnourished children to health.”

Volunteers are needed for shifts beginning 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The site is East Lake Academy, 13911 West Laurel Drive, Lake Forest.
