Illinois marks Nutrition Month in March

Eating healthy is the focus in Illinois in March.

The state Department of Human Services says it wants residents to lead a healthier lifestyle during Nutrition Month. The department, along with the Illinois Interagency Nutrition Council, is promoting food security, good nutrition, physical activity and health during March.

The theme of the month is to "Eat Right with Color!" The goal is to draw attention to eating a variety of colored foods to ensure a balance of fruits and vegetables.

State officials also suggest residents organize health recipe snack days, plan family meals and drink 8 ounces of water a day.
