Obama milestones routinely overlooked
I’m a proud 78-year-old American. But I am deeply saddened by the harmful rhetoric of conservative talk shows. Most of these shows and writers seem to have little time to research their message to get at the truth of the matter under discussion.
Here are some irrefutable facts of the accomplishments of the Obama administration which conservative talk shows routinely ignore, except to belittle them: 1) Passage of the Recovery Act that creates millions of jobs while providing tax relief for 95 percent of working families. 2) Passage of the Affordable Care Act, demonized by the right, but still providing insurance options for individuals and businesses that lowers costs and corrects the many abuses of the health insurance industry. 3) Wall Street reform, which saves millions of dollars in unfair fees, and prevents predatory practices for all Americans. 4) Ending combat operations in Iraq and removing nearly 100,000 troops to fight al-Qaida in other areas of the world. 5) Nuclear arms control with Russia, which helps make all of us safer from nuclear attacks.
Other important accomplishments that are not well publicized by media outlets include: Middle class tax cuts, credit card reform, fair pay for women, reforming student lending practices, repealing don’t ask, don’t tell. I hope more of us can begin to see the utter uselessness of hate talk and resolve to move forward with the president’s and the people’s realistic agenda — to bring us out of this dismal mess in our economy.
