Chicago-based Maps & Atlases turned a lot of heads in 2010 with a debut record, “Perch Patchwork,” that continually straddled the line between experimental and accessible. Staples is back
Chicago gospel and R&B legend Mavis Staples, fresh off a triumphant win at the Grammy Awards, will perform in the suburbs this weekend. Staples' 2010 record, “You Are Not Alone,” has won raves from coast to coast, and this show promises to be a good one. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie. $50 to $60. Rock o' the Irish
Kevin Flynn and the Avondale Ramblers are a Chicago band that delivers intense, driving rock with an acoustic Celtic twist. The band has developed a reputation for a fierce live attack, especially on St. Patrick's Day. Flynn and co. will be part of a full day of live music at Durty Nellie's on Thursday, so make sure to block off plenty of time that day.
