Northern Illinois scouting report

Northern Illinois (9-20) at Bowling Green (13-18)

When: 6 p.m. at Anderson Arena

Radio: WLBK 1360-AM

The skinny: In last year’s MAC tournament, ninth-seeded Ohio pulled off four straight upsets to take the championship and then shocked Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament’s first round. That ought to provide some hope for the seventh-seeded Falcons and 10th-seeded Huskies, though NIU will again play without leading scorer Xavier Silas and point guard Bryan Hall. Silas led NIU with 23 points in Bowling Green’s 73-70 OT victory on Feb. 2 at Convocation Center. Scott Thomas led BGSU with 23 points. The Huskies haven’t won a MAC tournament game since 2003, so a win tonight would mark progress.

Advancement: The winner plays second-seeded Western Michigan in an 11 a.m. quarterfinal Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
