For Lombard board: Breen, Fitzpatrick

Lombard Village Board Dist. 4

David Brown, Peter Breen, and Jeff Shuert are all running for the seat left open by Dana Moreau. All three agree that more businesses need to be attracted to the downtown area of Lombard; they also say a lobbyist could help the village secure funding for infrastructure improvement. Any one of these three candidates would be a good choice but we give the nod to Breen because he believes any downtown development should be done with Lombard’s lilac history in mind as a possible theme.

Lombard Village Board Dist. 5

James Hogan is challenging incumbent Laura Fitzpatrick in District 5. While lifelong Lombard resident Hogan would do well on the board, Fitzpatrick is clearly the better candidate. Both agree a lobbyist is needed to bring more businesses to Lombard, but Hogan favors sharing the cost with other villages. Fitzpatrick says the cost should not be shared so that the lobbyist’s loyalty is only to Lombard. We agree. Her experience on the board is shown by a thorough understanding of many issues affecting Lombard and she has creative ideas for addressing them. She says the village government should have a downtown presence in the old bank building at Main and St. Charles Roads. She would like to establish a circulating bus to run between downtown and Yorktown to bring people downtown and to take commuters from the train to Yorktown. Her first priority if re-elected, she says, would be to deal with flooding problems by helping residents get grants.
