Why I quit the teachers union

The reason I chose to abandon my membership in the teacher's union when I taught was because I discovered the union encouraging us to be dissatisfied with our wages and to “fight for our rights.”

Over and above what our contracts specified (with yearly raises built in for acceptable service — and we had, in good faith, accepted). The union, I felt, was a rabble-rouser and a pittance of our dues went to our local district, the majority being spent by the union to promote their political goals.

I had signed a contract which I thought was fair, and the union was inciting my disatisfaction and promoting their own selfish agenda. Many, if not all, districts take advantage of this powerful organization that they feel is “on their side.” The union made no bones about whom they supported and I did not appreciate their using my funds to put their politicians in office.

I do not think my experience was an exception to the rule and strongly support the governor of Wisconsin. Which should come first, the greater need for their state or the wants of a minority? What a shame that teachers abandoned their students for self-gain. This may not be a permanent move once satisfactory recovery is gained. Is patience out of style?
