Tax stock traders for extra cash
Many years ago when reporters asked Willie Sutton why he robbed banks, he said, “That’s where the money is.” Why can’t Illinois leaders figure out where the money is? They don’t have to have robbery in mind. As your nurse says at flu shot time, “Just a little stick.”
The money, dear “leaders,” is on LaSalle Street and environs. ... the “little stick” is a financial transaction tax.
Less than one percent on the daily volume of the Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Board of Chicago Board Options Exchange (traded electronically and collectible electronically) would surely help balance the Illinois budget and maybe inspire some day traders to move out to Las Vegas where they belong.
Sacred cows? So is the Pentagon, but even some folks in Washington are rethinking that.
Leave the public employees alone to plow the snow, fight fires and teach our kids ... and go where the money is!
