Religion sneaking into politics

I have been following the way in which Christianity has been working its way into our political structures.

Boehner reached out to the Christian right wing on Sunday. Why the Christian right wing? Do they represent all Americans? Am I wrong in thinking we have a separation of our many churches and houses of worship and our one state?

I look at Christians as flawed as anyone, pedophile priests, cheating husbands, thieves, murderers, do Christians have a corner on morality? Clearly, not, nor can any group of religious people claim a moral superiority over another and thereby impose their morals and values on everyone, one shoe does not fit, nor does one God, if there is a God.

On your editorial page, you quote the fear of God. I need to know which God? And why should we fear our God? The religious right want to teach creationism in science class. Science is provable, magic is not.

To believe that the earth was created in seven days is simplistic and magical thinking, devoid of logic. Oh, and which version of creationism? The Catholic version, the Evangelical version, the Jewish version, the Hindu version or the Muslim version? The list goes on and on.

I think debating and learning about the differing theories of how the earth came into being is noble. Create a course in comparative religion, or maybe philosophy, or maybe cultural anthropology. Leave science alone and keep religion out of politics.
