In Libertyville: Cullum, Proepper, Johnson

Libertyville has not been immune to economic problems in recent years, but the village board responded pragmatically to tighten its belt.

Service and employee cuts were made, a temporary utility tax was implemented and extended to add needed revenue. The board maintained a generally good and responsive relationship with the important business community. The board has worked well as a unit.

In this environment, all of the candidates for three board seats are strong. We believe incumbents Drew Cullum, Nick Proepper and Donna Johnson have earned new terms.

They hold realistic views on key issues such as moving cautiously on historic preservation so as to protect continuity in the community and not trample property owner rights. They are open to considering financial incentives to attract and retain business.

Challenger Jim Moran also is a solid candidate who offers similar views to the incumbents. We urge him to stay involved in the community.
