Endorsement: Garcia, Burroway, Marks for Carpentersville board
The race for three village trustee seats in Carpentersville features one incumbent and four challengers. Would that there were only more options.
Incumbent Paul Humpfer has done a good job of helping right the village's financial ship, but in 2008 he was found guilty of domestic battery for hitting his wife in the legs with a baseball bat. Humpfer has denied the charges, but he is damaged goods. Kent Baldwin did not participate in our interview or published Q&A.
That leaves us with Humberto Garcia, a small-business man, Don Burroway, a member of the planning and zoning commission, and Doug Marks, who ran for the 14th District congressional seat last year as a Libertarian.
Garcia and Burroway both seem earnest — Garcia has some intriguing ideas for raising money while at the same time advocates making it easier for businesses to come to or remain in the village. We hope that Marks, for his sometimes extreme views, learns to work with others on the board rather than playing the obstructionist.
Burroway, Garcia and Marks are endorsed.
