Garza OK after being hit by liner

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Cubs right-hander Matt Garza said he was fine after getting hit by a line drive off the bat of Jeff Francoeur in Chicago's 5-4 loss to Kansas City on Friday.

The liner struck Garza in the second inning, but he remained in the game to retire the next two Royals. He was lifted for a pinch hitter as a precaution.

Royals rookie Eric Hosmer hit a grand slam in the sixth inning after John Gaub had walked the bases loaded. Mitch Maier, who has eight straight hits, drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh.

Tyler Colvin went 3 for 3 for Chicago, with a homer in the first and an RBI double in the fifth, as the Cubs lost for the fifth time in six games.
