Disney's 'Bambi' gets special treatment

“Bambi Diamond Collection”

Parents and grandparents can now relive this timeless masterpiece with the entire family. Disney has a great way of telling a story with a moral, and “Bambi” follows a young deer's loss of innocence and celebrates the beauty of real friendship. The film has never looked or sounded better, and the two-disc set is loaded with bonus features.

“Pioneers of Television”

The four DVDs released as part of the “Pioneers of Television” take viewers back in time to survey a wide range of programming. The series was seen on PBS.

“Westerns” — Westerns dominated television for 20 years, and you will not only get television clips, but interviews with James Arness, Linda Evans, James Garner, Fess Parker, Barbra Stanwyck and others.

“Science Fiction” — “Star Trek,” “The Twilight Zone” and “Lost in Space” are featured along with interviews with some of the stars of the shows.

”Crime Dramas” — The crime drama paved the way in many areas, and this program explains how with great clips and many interviews. Among them are Bill Cosby, Jack Webb, Angie Dickinson, Peter Graves and Martin Landau.

“Local Kids” — Many locally produced shows have helped entertain kids over the years, and some of the characters have gone national. This program explores such examples as “Bozo” and “Romper Room.” There's also information on what kids show Albert Einstein enjoyed to watch.

“Harry Connick Jr.: In Concert on Broadway”

As Harry Connick Jr. was touring the country, he appeared on Broadway for two weeks of sold-out performances. The two-act show featured the songs “It Had to be You,” “You Don't Know Me,” “All the Way,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Hey There” and many more.

Many careers got off the ground with performers playing the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles. It was a place to be seen, and you could perform with just a guitar or a single piano. This is a DVD/CD set, and there are terrific interviews with David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Kris Kristofferson and others. The CD offers songs from a host of greats, including James Taylor and Carole King.
