Census shows hundreds more vacant homes in Arlington Heights

The number of vacant single and multifamily homes in Arlington Heights almost doubled from 2000 to 2010, according to the latest U.S. Census data.

The vacancies total 1,876 of the village’s 32,795 homes, the Census figures show. That compares with 962 vacancies among 31,725 homes in 2000.

The figures were presented this week at a budget meeting of the Arlington Heights Village board, but Trustee Thomas Glasgow was quick to point out that the vacancies do not all involve foreclosures.
