10-year sentence for Carpentersville shooting

A jury may have acquitted Henry Black last month for a 2007 murder in Carpentersville, but someone will do prison time for Aaron Razo’s death.

Anthony M. Domino, 20, formerly of Algonquin, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Kane County Judge Karen Simpson accepted the plea agreement, which was reached after Domino testified last month against Black in the Aug. 2 shooting of 17-year-old Razo at a park near Golfview Elementary School.

Despite police finding the murder weapon at Black’s parent’s home in Carpentersville and testimony from Domino and another gang member that Black, pulled the trigger, a jury found him not guilty and he is a free man.

After the shooting, authorities charged Domino with first-degree murder, saying he was the driver of an SUV filled with gang members looking to retaliate because Domino and his girlfriend were chased by rival gang members earlier that day.

The first-degree murder charge, which carried 20 to 60 years in prison, along with a marijuana possession charge, were dropped by prosecutors for Domino’s testimony in the trial.

Domino could be out of prison in about four years, though.

He could have his sentence cut in half if he exhibits good behavior in prison and he and will get credit for about 394 days spent at the Kane County jail.
