Scouting Marmion-Crystal Lake Central
Daily Herald report
Class 3A Hampshire regional final
No. 3 Marmion (15-12) vs. No. 1 Crystal Lake Central (23-4)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Outlook: Crystal Lake Central’s last regional title dates to 1998, but the IHSA lists Marmion’s last back in 1977. This will be one of the biggest teams Marmion’s faced this season, as the Tigers have six players at least 6-foot-4. Max Gleixner, a 6-foot-7 center, scored 15 points with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in their 75-52 win over Burlington Central; 6-2 Joe Pijanowski scored 21 points with 12 rebounds in their 10th straight win. Marmion’s Graham and Ryan Glasgow and Nick Scoliere can counter height with bulk and strength, but it’s Cadets’ 6-1 forward Mark Berdelle who will wriggle inside as usual. Marmion will continue to ride the hot hand of guard Eddy Grahovec, who scored 30 in the regular-season finale and 17 in the Cadets’ 54-43 win over No. 2 Hampshire.
