Police get warrant for brother of murder victim in Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows police say a 36-year-old man found dead in his home early Tuesday was killed by his brother in an alcohol-fueled fistfight.

Fidel Bahena-Aguilar, of the 4700 block of Arbor Drive, was pronounced dead inside the residence at 5:48 a.m., shortly after police received a 911 call from the apartment about an unresponsive subject. The death has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated Bahena-Aguilar was involved in a fight with Bernardo Bahena-Aguilar, his 29-year-old brother with whom he shared the apartment. Chief Dave Scanlan said Fidel Bahena-Aguilar died as a result of blunt trauma.

“It was a domestic. They lived together and had been drinking,” Scanlan said. “It was not the first time we had been called for a fight between the two brothers. It was not uncommon for them to drink and get themselves tangled up. This time it went too far.”

Bernardo Bahena-Aguilar’s wife and two children also live in the apartment, Scanlan said.

After the altercation, police said, Bernardo Bahena-Aguilar left the apartment and now is believed to be attempting to flee the state. Police are searching for him with the assistance of U.S. marshal’s office and the county’s Major Case Assistance Team, a multijurisdictional organization that helps member agencies during investigations of homicides, kidnappings and other major crimes.

An arrest warrant linking Bernardo Bahena-Aguilar to the killing was issued Tuesday, according to Cook County court records. It carries an $800,000 bail, meaning if captured he would need to post $80,000 cash to go free while awaiting trial.
