FAA data show increase in O'Hare controller errors
New data show an increase in air traffic controller mistakes at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
A published report says that the new data from the Federal Aviation Administration shows more errors happened during training of new controllers. The report also says that data found 17 errors over the most recent one-year timeframe. That's up from six errors the previous year.
Data show the errors happened while new controllers were directing aircraft to land, take off or taxi. The main error was not keeping proper distance between airplanes.
FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says more training is being done before a new air traffic tower is opened. She says programs also are being implemented to reduce training fatigue.
