Arlington Hts. to award new cultural arts prize

The Arlington Heights Arts Commission is calling for recommendations for its first Arlington Heights Cultural Arts Award, which celebrates achievements in arts produced by artists and writers whom the community may have helped to nurture, inspire or support.

The goal of the award is to assist in building on the sense of pride and community in the village and in the arts community in particular. The selection process will be administered by the arts commission.

Criteria for the award selection includes:

Ÿ Those directly responsible for the creation of substantial and accomplished creative work in any medium, including visual art, film, television, video, music, dance, theater and all forms of literature.

Ÿ Candidates with a substantial resume and accomplished work in their field, including local, regional, national and international achievements.

Ÿ Candidates with a relationship to the village, such as past or current residence, education in Arlington Heights or work created in or for the village.

Recommendations will be gathered for the first six months of 2011 with subsequent submittals to be considered for the following year.
