About 200 attend service for Dalai Lama's nephew
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — About 200 people attended a memorial service for Jigme Norbu, the Dalai Lama's nephew who was killed last month on an advocacy walk for Tibet.
The service Tuesday night at Bloomington's City Hall included Buddhist and Christian prayers and ended with refreshments.
Norbu's mother, Kunyang Norbu, tells The Herald-Times she was grateful for the large turnout.
An SUV struck and killed 45-year-old Jigme Norbu on Feb. 14 about 25 miles south of St. Augustine, Fla. It was the first day of Norbu's planned 300-mile walk along Florida's Atlantic Coast to promote awareness of Tibet's struggle for independence from China.
Norbu's brother, Kunga Norbu, and two of his three sons completed the walk last week. It took four days, and approximately 20 supporters joined them.
