Firefighter injured in Barrington blaze
A firefighter received minor injuries battling a blaze in the 0 to 100 block of Hills and Dales Road in Barrington Sunday afternoon.
Barrington Fire Chief Jim Arie said fire fighters were called to the residential fire at 1:53 p.m., with first crews on the scene witnessing smoke and fire at the rear of the structure, extending into the attic.
He said the fire was upgraded to a second alarm, while fire crews swept the building to ensure everyone was out.
He said a cat and a bird were saved during the sweep, and that the structure was empty.
He said fire crews knocked down the blaze in about an hour, but not before water and smoke damaged the home to a cost of about $220,000.
He said the firefighter received a minor hand injury and was treated at the scene.
He said fire fighters from Long Grove, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Carpentersville, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Cary, Wheeling, Buffalo Grove and East Dundee were called in to assist.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Arie said, and two people were displaced from the home due to the blaze.
