Music events: Mullins visits Metropolis

Road warrior

Shawn Mullins scored a big hit in 1998 with “Lullaby,” a song that received major airplay and was nominated for a Grammy. Since then, the singer-songwriter has had a few more hits and toured extensively. His latest travels bring him to the suburbs this weekend, where he'll play songs from his 2010 record, “Light You Up,” and others from throughout his career. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell, Arlington Heights. $35 to $45. Go to metropolisarts.com.

Big Easy style

Established in the late 1970s, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has become one of the most influential groups to emerge from New Orleans, fusing contemporary funk and bebop with the traditional Louisiana sound. The group makes a stop in the suburbs on this weekend before Mardi Gras. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band performs with Jon Cleary at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, Fawell and Park boulevards, Glen Ellyn. $28 to $38. Call (630) 942-4000 or go to cod.edu/atthemac.

Still rockin'

You've got to hand it to Bon Jovi: Nearly three decades after bursting out of New Jersey during the hair-metal era, the group continues to rack up hits and fill stadiums. Who would've thought? Jon and the boys arrive in town next week to rock the United Center for two nights. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, and Wednesday, March 9, at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., Chicago. $19.50 to $139.50. Go to ticketmaster.com.
