Dempster on milestones, losses and more

Pitcher Ryan Dempster has been a Cub since 2004 and has been a clubhouse leader for several years. Although known for his wit, Dempster also is a reflective player who faces the media, win or lose. Here are his thoughts on a few subjects from a spring training interview with the Daily Herald.

On reaching 100 wins:#147;In the grand scheme of the game and as many people as who#146;ve played, I think it#146;s a pretty neat thing, to get there. I#146;m very fortunate to be able to be around long enough to do that. Hopefully, I can stay healthy and continue to win as many games. Personal achievements are great. #147;As a kid, you dream about doing stuff like that. Ultimately, those personal things are just out there to try and help your team. I#146;ll trade all 100 of them in right now to win a World Series, in a heartbeat.#148;On accountability:#147;There#146;s always a way to do something better. There are very few perfect games. So I think that if you look at it that way, you can always strive to be better. If you go out there and give up a run or you give up 2 runs and your team scores 1, maybe you should have found a way to not give up any. I know that seems unrealistic, but as a pitcher, my mind-set is that#146;s how I feel.#148;On staying in Chicago: #147;I#146;d really have a tough time seeing myself playing anywhere other than here. You always understand that#146;s a side of baseball. I believe that they enjoy me here and are happy with me here and are happy with the way I go about my business. Hopefully, I#146;m here not just the next two years, but for a long time after that.#148;
