Des Plaines attic fire displaces residents

A fire in an attic displaced the residents of a single-family home Saturday afternoon in Des Plaines.

Des Plaines fire Battalion Chief Mike Tripicchio said firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of Beau Drive at 12:40 p.m.

The fire, he said, was called in by the homeowner’s daughter.

Tripicchio said firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 20 minutes.

Mount Prospect firefighters assisted.

Damage is estimated at between $30,000 to $50,000.

The fire is still under investigation, but it is believed that it started with a light fixture in the attic.

The family of four was relocated for the evening, Tripicchio said.
