Bail denied for man charged with driving on revoked license

A Cook County judge denied bail Saturday for a Hoffman Estates man who was on bond for driving with a revoked license when police arrested him on a similar charge.

An officer noticed 36-year-old Michael Bennett driving with an expired vehicle sticker when he stopped him Friday in South Barrington, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Robin Murphy.

Murphy said Bennett, of the 600 block of West Bode Road, has five DUI convictions dating back to 1994. He is not charged with a DUI in conjunction with the latest ticket.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie ordered Bennett held without bail because he was on bond for aggravated driving while license revoked when he was stopped Friday.

“Mr. Bennett does not have the ability to drive, yet he continues to do so,” Marisie said.

Citing concern for the public's safety, she set bail at $75,000 on the new charge.

Bennett's next court date is March 3.
