South Elgin man charged with having child porn

A South Elgin man was arrested Friday as part of a crackdown on child pornography by the Illinois attorney general’s office.

Ronald Lee Gablin, 31, is charged with one count of aggravated possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Both charges are felonies, and if convicted, Gablin faces between five and 12 years in prison.

Gablin is the 18th suspect arrested as part of Operation Glass House, a statewide effort launched last August to find those in possession of child pornography by tracking their Internet protocol addresses.

Attorney general’s office investigators estimated there are some 6,000 IP addresses trading child pornography images and videos in Illinois.

Gablin’s bond was set at $250,000, and he is due in Kane County court at 9 a.m. Thursday.

The attorney general’s office, South Elgin Police Department and Kane County state’s attorney office assisted in Gablin’s arrest.
